Bio

Rebecca Blumhagen is a documentary producer and experimental filmmaker whose work explores the space between memory and presence, lost myths of childhood, agrarian rhythms, and physical manifestations of confrontations between history and modern culture. She has a background in devised theater, original short-form digital series, and commercial work in many genres, including documentary and animation. She served as an Outreach and Story Producer through RadicalMedia for “PBS American Portrait,” a multi-platform documentary initiative that spanned an archival website, TV series, book, and public art project over the course of a year and a half. Her short documentary “The Happiness Machine” screened at 27 festivals across the world, winning 13 awards, and was broadcast nationally on PBS. Her current work, “Churn, Dash,” is a documentary tapestry of collected stories that starts with the use of the feed sack in the early part of the last century by rural women who utilized them to create clothing and quilts. Her work has been supported by the Iowa Arts Council, The Harpur Dean's Graduate Investment Initiative Fund, and the Princess Grace Foundation. She holds an MFA in Cinema from Binghamton University.
