Bio
Félix is a bilingual creative professional splitting his time between his native Ecuador and New York City. He has a long and consistent track record of producing innovative, thought-provoking media of consequence that have screened at prestigious film festivals around the world. Topics he has covered have ranged from the preservation and celebration of LGBT historical spaces to character portraits of activists who rise up to the challenges of fighting prejudice and violence. In addition, his work as an independent programmer and arts administrator draws on his values to champion art that functions as a catalyst for social change. His films have screened at festivals such as Berlinale, SXSW, DOC NYC, Outfest, and Mill Valley.
His short documentary GRIT & GRIND tells the story of the Clit Club, an edgy lesbian club set in New York’s Meatpacking District in the 1990s, as the city struggled with the AIDS epidemic. The film had its debut at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014. He produced NORTH BY CURRENT (2021, Dir: Angelo Madsen Minax), which premiered at the Berlinale, and was broadcast on POV in 2021, and UNSEEN (2023, Dir: Set Hernandez), which had its World Premiere at HotDocs, and was showcased on POV in 2023. Félix chairs the Board of Working Films and serves on the Board of Chicken & Egg Films. He has been a recipient of residencies at Arts, Letters & Numbers (Averill Park, NY), Foundation House (Greenwich, CT), and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (Amherst, VA). Félix is a 2023 Impact Partners Producers Fellow.
Félix has served on selection committees for Art for Justice, BlackStar Film Festival, Creative Capital, Firelight Media, Jerome Foundation, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, NewFest, and Tribeca Film Festival, among many others. An alum of the Art of Leadership at the Rockwood Leadership Institute, he also co-chairs the Trans/Intersex Task Force within the Global Philanthropy Project, a philanthropy serving organization supporting LGBTQI communities globally.
Félix is an outspoken advocate for trans filmmakers, founding the Trans Affinity Group (TAG) for the Documentary Producers Alliance, and who has argued for the imperative of championing meaningful and authentic queer and trans storytelling in outlets such as the Hollywood Reporter. TAG's focus is on fostering collaboration, resource sharing, career development, and contributing to an inclusive industry. The objective is to amplify trans voices, broaden narratives, and provide fresh perspectives to transform documentary filmmaking, with an emphasis on prioritizing accountability to protagonists and audiences for a more equitable field.
