Projects

One South: Portrait of a Psych Unit

ONE SOUTH is a deeply intimate, two-part observational portrait of an inpatient psychiatric unit at Zucker Hillside Hospital in Queens, NY, specializing in treating young adults. Patients who arrive daily are dealing with a variety of mental health issues, and many have contemplated or attempted suicide. A team of doctors, social workers, and nurses work together to stabilize the patients and prepare them to return to the outside world. The two-part film follows the trajectory of hospital admission–from intake through the ups and downs of treatment to discharge. To watch ONE SOUTH on HBO Max, please visit: bit.ly/onesouth_hbomax

Raising the Floor

In 2020, COVID-19 sent the majority Latinx city of Chelsea, Massachusetts, spiraling into chaos. Residents waited in long lines to pick up food at a makeshift distribution center. City leaders, overwhelmed by the high costs and logistics of feeding a city, came up with a simple but inspired idea. CHELSEA EATS, the largest basic income pilot in American history, gave 2,000 individuals and families direct payments of up to $400 a month with no strings attached.
