Bio
Razi Jafri is a human rights focused documentary filmmaker. His debut film, HAMTRAMCK, USA, premiered at the SXSW film festival and aired nationally on PBS. The film chronicles life and democracy in America’s first Muslim-majority city. Razi produced THREE CHAPLAINS about Muslim chaplains as they fight for religious freedom in the US military. The film was broadcast on the PBS program Independent Lens. He is also the producer of ROUGE, which premiered at the Hot Docs Film Festival in 2024. Razi’s work has been supported by the Ford Foundation, the Doris Duke Foundation, the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation, the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), and others. He has been awarded fellowships by Impact Partners, the Kresge Foundation, the Knight-Sundance Fellowship, the Sundance Producers Lab+Fellowship, and the Sundance-Disney Fellowship. Razi has a BS in engineering and an MFA in studio art both from the University of Michigan.
