Bio
Kendall is a NY-based biologist and documentary film producer. Her films focus on multispecies encounters and underrepresented stakeholders in field science. She is producing her first feature film “With Their Backs to the Sky” a sensory ethnographic non-fiction feature that immerses into the tightly entangled lives of field biologists, local bat catchers and Old World fruit bats in Madagascar.
As a producer she has brought in grants from the Sundance Institute, Sandbox Films, and the Buffett Institute for Climate Crisis and Media Arts. She has worked in biological research for nearly a decade on studies ranging from sub-fossil shrews to epigenetic aging at UC Berkeley, UChicago, and the FMNH. She has conducted field biology in California, South Africa, Malawi and, predominantly, in Madagascar. She received a BA in Evolution, Ecology, Organismal Biology from UC Berkeley with a focus in mammalogy.

With Their Backs to the Sky
In Madagascar, a fearless bat catcher, Tojo, travels cross country to catch bats for scientists who study their diseases. As cyclones threaten to wreak havoc on his fire-stricken homeland, Tojo's journey becomes a poignant pilgrimage toward ancestral connection and ecological care.
