Bio

Victorious De Costa is a native of East Flatbush, Brooklyn. who has dedicated his life to providing social service locally, nationally, and abroad. First through community programs while an undergrad at Morehouse College and now through art.

De Costa is the "Director of “Digging for Weldon Irvine”, a music-centered documentary that focused on the joint paradigms of Artist Identity, Mental Wellness and Suicide Awareness. Digging for Weldon Irvine starred, Lalah Hathaway, Q-Tip, Bobbito Garcia and Jazz legends Lenny White, Bernard Wright & Billy Cobham.

Victorious was also a Producer of “Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn”, an HBO documentary film that was spotlighted at the 20th Annual Tribeca Film Festival and nominated for an NAACP image award in 2021. He was instrumental in lobbying the City Council to co-name a street in Yusuf Hawkins' name where his mural presides. Storm Over Brooklyn was inadvertently responsible for the ousting of a veteran of NY radio station, Hot 97

A former coach and Commissioner of Bed Stuy Sluggers, a youth sports organization, Victorious parlayed his love for both the youth and baseball into the manifestation of the TV Documentary “Jackie Robinson: Get To The Bag”which aired on Fox Sports (FS1) in 2022 and features Earvin"Magic"Johnson, Ilyasah Shabazz, Alex Rodriguez the film's Executive Producer - Mookie Betts and groundbreaking Hip Hop narration by SKYZOO

Upon the opening of NYC's Jackie Robinson Museum Victorious contributed the script for the acclaimed Crossing the Color Line media installation.. In Red Hook, Brooklyn, Victorious instructs a Documentary Filmmaking workshop for at-risk teenagers at Dustin Yellin’s Pioneer Works.
In production is an independent doc about racial disparity in youth-suicide rates in America - Ring The Alarm.

On his slate of dynamic stories are a documentary about the the legendary Motown group - The Four Tops and a reunion doc about the movie Soul Food – a project whose Executive Producers include George Tillman Jr. and Vivica A. Fox. Victorious is also a DJ and Music Producer and Certified Consulting Hypnotist, helping people with personal challenges and self-discoveries.

Jackie Robinson: Get To The Bag

Jackie Robinson: Get to the Bag spotlights the remarkable career of Jackie Robinson *beyond baseball. The film blends the lyrical narrative of Brooklyn-based rapper Skyzoo and the voices of multiple generations to celebrate Robinson’s extraordinary life and legacy, shedding new light on the Hall of Famer’s journey outside of the baseball diamond and into his prominence in Social Justice & corporate America. The film features memorable, archival footage and conversational interviews with Ervin 'Magic' Johnson, Mookie Betts, Candice Wiggins, Alex 'A-Rod' Rodriguez, Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz and more

Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn

A deeply emotional film with chilling resonance in today’s America, Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn, explores the 30-year legacy of Yusuf’s murder as his family and friends reflect on the tragedy and the subsequent fight for justice that inspired and divided New York City.

Digging for Weldon Irvine

Weldon J. Irvine, Jr. was a revolutionary composer, mentor of Jazz & Hip hop legends and wrote the lyrics of “To be Young, Gifted and Black” during his tenure as the legendary Nina Simone’s organist and Music Director. This documentary unearth’s the time capsule of his influence on Jazz and Hip Hop which has been unheralded – until now. Music is the key.
