Summary

The Media and Children’s Rights Guidelines: A Practical Introduction for Media Professionals summarize the key issues that are in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and related legislation in Lao PDR as guidelines for reporting on children and child rights issues. The Guidelines are to help Lao media professionals to uphold children’s rights when reporting on news related to children. It also includes guidelines on generating news stories and features,
and a pre-publishing checklist (pre-release warnings) to determine whether the news story aligns with the protection and promotion of children's rights.

The main purpose of the guidelines is to ensure the media professionals report on children responsibly, accurately, and in accordance with the CRC, laws, regulations, principles of protection. It also contributes to the promotion of the rights of the child and the roles of children in the media. It is hoped that the media, children and the general public will help provide feedback for the further improvement of the guidelines.
